The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has pledged to collaborate with the Kano State Government to train its members and assist in disseminating information on government projects.
This commitment was made during a familiarization visit by NAWOJ to the newly appointed Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kano Chapter, Comrade Bahijja Kabara, commended the commissioner for his dedication to enhancing the capacity of women journalists through training initiatives. She emphasized that such efforts would significantly improve the professionalism and quality of journalism in the state.
In his response, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, expressed appreciation to NAWOJ for their visit and assured the association of the government’s continued support. He acknowledged the critical role women journalists play in information dissemination and pledged to prioritize their empowerment through relevant training and capacity-building programs.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Salma Yusuf expressed gratitude to Governor Engr. Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering support of women’s initiatives, describing him as a strong advocate for women’s empowerment. She also lauded Comrade Waiya for fostering media-friendly policies and promoting collaboration with stakeholders.
The event also featured remarks from NAWOJ’s National Secretary, Comrade Wasila Ibrahim Aladan, who highlighted the importance of synergy between the media and the government in ensuring effective communication and public enlightenment.
