Kano Gov. Yusuf to Clear N42bn Pension Debt Within One Year

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fully settle the N42 billion pension liabilities inherited from previous governments within one year.

The governor made this known during the disbursement of an additional N5 billion to pensioners and beneficiaries at the Government House in Kano.

He revealed that his administration has already paid N32 billion out of the total debt, covering gratuities, pensions, and death benefits owed to retirees and families of deceased workers.

The disbursement event attracted large numbers of pensioners and relatives from across the state, turning the Government House courtyard into a scene of relief and celebration.

Governor Yusuf acknowledged the challenges involved in clearing the backlog but emphasized that the progress made within two years demonstrates strong political will and commitment to workers’ welfare.

He assured that the remaining balance would be fully paid before the end of his first term, bringing long-awaited relief to affected families.

Representing the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Deputy National President Abdullahi Onuh described the governor as a promise keeper and expressed confidence in the completion of the payments.

He noted that pensioners across the state are already feeling the impact of the intervention and remain hopeful for full settlement.

Beneficiaries were drawn from all 44 local government areas, including families who received death benefits of their loved ones.

Many of them expressed gratitude to the government, describing the payments as timely support that would ease their financial burdens.
