The Kano State Government has welcomed the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in the long-standing Emirate Council dispute involving Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Making it known to the media In a joint press conference, the state’s Attorney General, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Commissioner for Information, and DG Media expressed satisfaction with the judgment, reiterating the government’s commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law .
The commissioners emphasized that the Court of Appeal’s decision reaffirms its authority in matters pertaining to traditional institutions and chieftaincy appointments.
The verdict also provides clarity on the jurisdictional boundaries of the courts in such disputes, overturning earlier decisions by the Federal High Court and validating the state government’s actions on chieftaincy appointments and reforms .
The Kano State Government has urged all parties to respect the court’s judgment and collaborate with the government in promoting peace, unity, and progress.
The commissioners emphasized that it remains committed to work with traditional institutions, ensuring harmony, and fostering development across all emirates .
