In a move to ensure universal healthcare coverage, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the enrollment of all inmates across 12 Custodial Centers in Kano State into the state’s Basic Healthcare Scheme.
Making it known to Aminci radio by Aminu Ahmad Turaki a public relation officer of the agency.
The decision follows a pre-assessment visit by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, to engage with custodial center facilities and provide basic healthcare services to inmates.
Dr Rahila Aliyu Mukhtar said With this approval, inmates will have free access to basic and comprehensive healthcare services while in custody.
Adding that The health and medical welfare of inmates are crucial for efficient custodial management, as well as for their effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency paid a courtesy visit to Controller Nigerian Correctional Services Kano state command, Ado Inuwa, in his office
Dr Rahila assured the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Services, Kano State Command, about the state government’s readiness to support and assist all inmates medically while in custody.
She encouraged inmates to pray for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, enabling him to continue providing democratic dividends to all.
In his remarks The Controller of Correctional Services, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa expressed gratitude to the state government for its relentless support and assistance. He believes this gesture will motivate inmates to become productive and law-abiding citizens after discharge.
This initiative is part of Governor Yusuf’s efforts to enhance healthcare access for vulnerable populations in Kano State, as seen in his previous launch of the Abba Care Initiative, which enrolled over 300,000 individuals in a free health insurance scheme
