Ummatee Centre for the Promotion of Public Education, Accountability and Social Safety has appealed to the Kano State House of Assembly to allocate sufficient funds for inclusive social protection activities in the 2025 budget.
The centre’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghazali Ibrahim Ungogo, commended the state government’s commitment to education, citing the highest allocation to the sector as a commendable step.
However, he emphasized the need for inclusive social protection to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, including children, women, youth, elderly, and people with disabilities.
The centre requested budgetary allocations for various initiatives, including:
– Vocational Training:
– Disability Support: Kano State Commission for Persons with Disability for establishment and full operation.
– Social Welfare: Funding for WARAKA SARC MMSH, Torrey Home for the Handicap Children, and other social welfare centres.
– Infrastructure Development: Construction of roads, general hospitals, and additional classroom blocks.
The TIMES HAUSA reported that Ummatee Centre emphasized that inclusive social protection is crucial for promoting peace, security, and economic activities in Kano State. By allocating adequate funds for these initiatives, the state government can contribute to building a more resilient and equitable society.
