Global Health Advocacy Incubator Decorates Kano Lawmaker, Actress as Hypertension Ambassadors
The Global Health Advocacy Incubator decorated a lawmaker from Kano House of Assembly and a popular actress as ambassadors to strengthen awareness and advocacy on hypertension
The initiative, implemented under the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative, honoured Zakariyya Alhassan Member representatin Kura and garin malam also Chairman House committee on health ,state house of assembly and Aysha Usman Adam as Hypertension Ambassadors during a high-level networking dinner held in Kano.
Speaking at the event, Ezinne Ezekwem associates Director global health Advocacy incubator GHAI,said Kano State is among the leading states in Nigeria in terms of performance in the fight against hypertension.
She urged other states to emulate Kano’s approach, particularly in the areas of budget allocation and timely release of funds for health interventions.
Ezekwem emphasized that sustained financing and strong political will remain key to reducing the growing burden of hypertension across the country.
She also appreciated the Kano State Government, the Association of People Living with Hypertension, civil society organizations, and the media for their continuous efforts in supporting awareness and response activities.
Representing the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Pharm. Sidi Isah Muhd reaffirmed government commitment to strengthening hypertension control and improving healthcare delivery in the state.
He urged the newly appointed ambassadors to use their platforms to promote awareness, encourage early screening, and support lifestyle changes among residents.
In his remarks, Hon. Zakariyya Alhassan, who represents Kura and Garin Malam constituencies in the Kano State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged continued legislative support for health interventions in the state.
Similarly, actress Aysha Usman Adam (Humaira) promised to leverage her influence to raise awareness on hypertension and advocate for increased funding and public engagement on non-communicable diseases.
