The Honourable Commissioner,Of Kano State Ministry of Humanitarians Affairs and poverty aliviation Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, received a courtesy call from the Chairman of the Human Rights Network, Comrade AA Ayagi, on Tuesday.
In his welcoming Addressed Commissioner Aliyu Kibiya reflected on the perception of human rights activities in the past, stating,
“Long ago, human rights has been looked at as anti-Islamic and any religious activity because of the way they do their activities against traditional and religious activities.
“But coming to the ministry and highlighting some of their activities testifies that their work is normal, it’s not against traditions.
He urged the Human Rights Network to ensure they do the right thing in their activities.
Commissioner Aliyu Kibiya emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to Collaborate with local and international organizations, as well as other relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Health, Environment, Women Affairs, and others, to improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Kano State.
He noted that partnerships are crucial in addressing the complex challenges facing the state and assured that the Ministry would work closely with the Human Rights Network to identify areas of need and develop targeted interventions.
“As a Ministry, we recognize the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration to achieve our goals. We will work with the Ministry of Health to provide medical support, the Ministry of Environment to address environmental issues and climate change also the Ministry of Women Affairs to support women’s empowerment, Ministry Of Youth to Provide Skills to Youths and others” Commissioner Kibiya said.
During the visit, Comrade Ayagi expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for receiving them and sought to collaborate with the Ministry to support vulnerable and less privileged individuals across the state, particularly inmates awaiting trial due to debt.
He highlighted the organization’s activities, including sensitization workshops for women and visits to inmates to identify areas where they can provide support.
“We do sensitization workshops for women and visit inmates to find out areas we can key into to help vulnerable inmates and call the attention of philanthropists in Kano State to settle and free some inmates,” Comrade Ayagi stated.
Comrade Ayagi also sought the Commissioner’s assistance in soliciting the Executive Governor’s support to renovate the Goron Dutse Prison, provide health facilities, skills acquisition training, and empowerment programs for inmates.
