INEC Begins Doorstep Voter Registration in Gwarzo Local Government.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a ward-to-ward voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection exercise in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, starting from Lakwaya Ward.
The exercise, announced in a press release issued by the Gwarzo Zonal Information Office on February 2, 2026, is designed to bring electoral services closer to residents and improve access for eligible voters at the grassroots.

According to the statement signed by the Zonal Information Officer, Auwalu Musa Yola, the outreach targets first-time registrants, people with missing or damaged PVCs, voters seeking correction of names or dates of birth, and those whose biometric fingerprints were not previously captured.
Flagging off the exercise in Lakwaya Ward, the Electoral Officer in charge of Gwarzo LGA, Alhaji Usaini Musa Jibo, said INEC officials will remain in the ward for five days before moving to other wards across the local government.
He explained that the commission moved the exercise to the community level to reduce the stress and transport cost residents face when traveling to the INEC office in Gwarzo town.
Jibo added that all uncollected PVCs have been made available at the ward level to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to collect their card and complete registration where necessary.
He urged residents of Lakwaya and surrounding communities to come out in large numbers to participate in the exercise and update their voter records.
A resident of Lakwaya, Kamal Abdulmumin, who benefited from the exercise, praised INEC’s approach, describing it as timely and citizen-friendly, and expressed confidence that it would increase voter participation in future elections.
The commission said the ward-to-ward exercise will continue across other wards in Gwarzo LGA after the completion of the five-day registration and PVC collection drive in Lakwaya.
