As part of the week-long sensitiazation campaign marking 2025 African Vaccination Week, Islamic and christian clerics in Kano state have called on parents, guardians and caregivers to ensure that their children were vaccinated and immunize against diseases capable of threatening the life of their wards.
An Islamic cleric, Malam Fatihu Rabiu, chief Imam of Unguwar Gano Juma’at mosque in Tarauni local government area in Kano metropolis said protection of children’s health is the responsibility of parents, adding that “ensuring your children was immunized and vaccinated is one of those responsibility.”
“Prophet Muhammad (PUH) said every disease has its cure unless you don’t know, and parents should bring their children for immunization as well as vaccination because it is very important in safeguarding people health,” said Imam Fatihu.
Also, reverend Matthew Ali Danjuma of Ecwa Church Hausa service in Kano said the church has in several times sensitize its followers on the important of immunization, vaccination and medical doctors prescribed drugs for healthy community.
“Some diseases may tend to spread faster in the communities but with Allah’s intervention and support as a result of vaccine, it may even come and go without your notice, that is why we always asked parents to ensure their children are vaccinated,” he added.
Meanwhile, the executive director of mari-care foundation for Widows, single parents, Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria Mrs Ola Taiyo has commended the religious leaders for their commitment in complementing the foundation’s effort in sensitizing the general public.
Mrs Taiyo said religious leaders play a vital role in shaping public perception and opinion, noting that with the recent development, the goal of the program will be achieved.
