In a bold move to accelerate socio-economic growth, Kano State has engaged with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to tackle poverty and promote sustainable development.
Kano state commissioner for Humanitarian affairs and poverty aliviation Adamu Aliyu Kibiya led a high-level delegation to met with top officials from the AfDB and WFP to discuss potential partnerships and projects.
The objectives of the discussions focused on addressing pressing issues such as poverty alleviation, humanitarian response, and sustainable development.
During the discussion Commissioner Kibiya emphasized the state government’s commitment to leveraging international collaborations to improve the lives of Kano residents.
“We are committed to creating sustainable solutions that address socio-economic challenges, enhance food security, and uplift the most vulnerable communities in our dear state,” Kibiya stated.
In there own separate remarks The AfDB and WFP reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Kano’s developmental goals, with a focus on:
– Food Security*: Enhancing food availability and access to vulnerable populations.
– Economic Empowerment*: Providing resources and expertise to support economic growth and resilience.
– Social Welfare*: Improving the overall well-being of Kano residents through sustainable development projects.
Dr. Abdul B. Kamara, Director General of the AfDB, emphasized the bank’s readiness to support initiatives that drive lasting impact.
“We recognize Kano’s immense potential and are eager to support projects that will enhance livelihoods, strengthen economic resilience, and ensure sustainable development for communities,” Dr. Kamara noted.
David Stevenson, Country Director of the WFP, reiterated the organization’s support in addressing food security challenges and improving humanitarian responses in Kano.
“Our partnership with the Kano State Government is crucial in tackling food insecurity and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the necessary support to thrive,” Stevenson stated.
This strategic partnership between Kano State Ministry of Humanitarians affairs and poverty aliviation, the African Development Bank , and the World Food Programm is poised to drive meaningful change and promote sustainable development in the state.
