In a bid to harness the demographic dividend for economic growth, National population commission has launched a workshop to sensitized stakeholders on the demographic dividend roadmap , which brought together policymakers, stakeholders, and media organizations, aims to build capacity and foster a shared vision for implementing the roadmap.
In his welcoming Addressed Federal Commissioner of National population commission Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, highlighted the importance of the workshop, stating that it aims to increase awareness and understanding of the demographic dividend and its socio-economic benefits.
“We want to enhance stakeholders’ ownership and accountability for the successful implementation of the DD strategy in communities and institutions,” he added.
“ the overall objectives of this Workshop is sensitized and build the capacity of key stakeholders on the demographic, dividend roadmap. Its benefits and its direct impact on social economic development in kano state. Thereby fostering a shared Vision among stakeholders for the implementation of the roadmap for achieving DD targets.” Tsanyawa said
In his remarks Director of the National Population Commission, Baba Balarabe Kabir appreciated the Federal Commissioner’s support towards the development of the Demographic Dividend roadmap.
“Your presence here is highly welcome, and we feel comfortable with your leadership,” he said.
“ also I would like to welcome Abdulkadir Salisu kabara who is the state team Lead FCDO Lafiya program and his energetic team who are all here with us.and all participants from different MDAs and Media organization I wish you fruitful deliberation”
Amir Chiroma from the National Population Commission explained that reducing dependency is crucial for economic growth.
“We want to use our population for economic growth, not just in Kano State but in the country at large,” he said.
In his presentation Dr Kabir Dakata explained the overview of the Asian Tigers how they developed their DD agender as well as how they succeed .
“We can learn from their experience and follow in their footsteps to achieved economic transformation,”
The Asian Tigers, comprising Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan, have successfully transitioned from low-income to high-income countries through effective policies and efforts.
“We all know who are these Asian tigers. So, the essence of this presentation, is to know what they have achieved. What are we currently doing? “
“We all know these countries had Economic transformation from low-income countries To high income countries . through Working policies. And Some efforts they move from that stage. To higher stage. Then they experienced rapid economic, rapid growth during the 60s. To 90s within this period of time. “
The workshop is part of National population commission efforts to harness the demographic dividend, which is critical for achieving economic growth and development.
By reducing dependency and increasing investment in education, healthcare, and family planning, Kano State aims to reap the benefits of its rapidly growing population .
