In a significant move to combat hypertension, in Kano state ,GAMMUN Centre for Care and Development Nigeria decorated the Commissioner for Health, Ministry of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, as the Hypertension Ambassador under the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI).
The ceremony, held at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital in Nasarawa, Kano State, marked a crucial step in strengthening collaborative efforts to address hypertension, a critical public health challenge affecting millions across Nigeria.
During this significant occasion, GAMMUN’s Project Director Tulari Tine and his team met with the Commissioner for Health, Kano State Ministry of Health, in the presence of Ezinne Ezekwem, Associate Director for Primary Health and Hypertension at the Global Health Advocacy Initiative (GHAI).
As the Hypertension Ambassador, Dr. Yusuf will work closely with government bodies, healthcare professionals, to improved access to healthcare services.
In his remarks Dr. Yusuf emphasized the importance of collective action in combating hypertension.
“Hypertension is often referred to as a silent killer, but as we come together today, we send a loud message: we can overcome this challenge through education, advocacy, and action.”
The Commissioner for the Ministry of Health expressed gratitude towards GAMMUN for their efforts in addressing hypertension, highlighting the importance of public awareness and education in reducing its prevalence and complications.
Ezinne Ezekwem, Associate Director for Primary Health and Hypertension at the Global Health Advocacy Initiative (GHAI), stressed the need to integrate comprehensive hypertension care into primary health systems.
“With initiatives like KHAI, we can empower communities and healthcare providers to effectively address this pressing health issue.”
The decoration as Hypertension Ambassador reflects GAMMUN’s commitment to increasing awareness, promoting preventive measures, and implementing effective management strategies for hypertension in the state.
The ceremony concluded with a commitment from all parties to collaborate towards the successful implementation of hypertension awareness programs and initiatives throughout Kano State.
