Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken a major step towards bolstering the state’s public health sector by signing the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Bill into law.
This groundbreaking legislation represents a significant milestone in the state’s quest to enhance its capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies, effectively decentralizing operations to facilitate more robust epidemic preparedness at the state and local government levels.
In his remarks State commissioner of health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusif expressed his gratitude to his excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusif for his commitment toward developing health sector in the state.
Dr Yusif however appreciate FCDO Lafiya and the other partners for unwavering support in establishing KNCDC.
Lafiya Programme, in collaboration with other partners, supported this noble and commendable initiative by Kano State Government.
The new law established is a pivotal institution supporting the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) at the state level.
The centre will decentralize its operations, aiming for more robust coordination of epidemic preparedness at the state and local government levels .
The KNCDC will be responsible for surveillance, detection, and response to public health emergencies.
However The law mandates the centre to develop and implement guidelines for infection prevention and control.
As the first state in Nigeria to established a subnational public health Center, The passage of this legislation demonstrates Kano State Government commitment to protected the health and well-being of its citizens.
