The GAMMUN Centre for Care and Development Nigeria has launched the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI), a project aimed to provide sustainable initiative, awareness treatment and control of hypertension in Kano State.
Mr. Tilare Tine, Executive Director of the GAMMUN Centre, expressing concern over the lack of attention given to hypertension in the budget compared to other diseases like HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis.
He also calls on the Kano State Government to prioritize hypertension care and allocate more resources to address the rising cases of hypertension in the state .
(On daily basis people are dying with hypertension disease but the attention still is not given, so there is need for stockholders to take this in to consideration) He said
Mr Tine However expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf ,Governor of Kano State for the attention he give to Gammon interms of Budget and the rest
“Our concern on budget is, let it be a specific budget line on hypertension looking at number of people that are currently in the conditions”
“The KHAI project is urging the Kano State Government to increase its annual budgetary disbursement and utilization of non-communicable disease appropriations to address the growing burden of hypertension in the state.”
“We believe that with the government’s attention and support, we can make a significant impact in reducing the prevalence of hypertension in Kano State,” said Tine
The initiative aims to increase political will and commitment from the Kano State Government to expand hypertension model facility services to the 22 additional Local Government Areas making 44 LGA in the state.
The KHAI project is funded by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator, an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund, and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
