In a recent election, Hassan Ibrahim Gama emerged as the Kano state Coordinator for the Civil Society Network on Migration and Development. His tenure will span from December 2024 to December 2026.
As the newly elected coordinator, Gama is calling on all Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Kano to collaborate in addressing migration-related issues.
“The objective of the CSOnetMADE is to helps civil societies build and strengthen the work of this peoplecentered, rights-based movement on migration and development. With the growing nature of migration, its trends and dynamics, the need to manage migration effectively is pertinent for the origin, transit and destination countries. ”he said.
The goal is to support the state and federal government in combating irregular migration, child trafficking, and promoting migrants’ rights.
The Civil Society Network on Migration and Development, Nigeria (CSOnetMADE) serves as a platform for diverse civil society actors, including NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs, to advocate for migrants’ rights. The network aims to strengthen the capacity of civil societies in managing migration dynamics.
However,“ for CSOs to adequately harness its role in migration governance as expected, they need to possess the requisite capacity to develop approaches and techniques in tackling existing and emerging migration issues.”
Nigeria, being an origin, transit, and destination country, recognizes the importance of effective migration management. The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) plays a crucial role in coordinating migration governance in the country.
