
The Ministry of Health Kano State has directed Hospitals Management Board to set up an investigation committee following a viral video makings rounds in the media regarding a clash between a Doctor and patient relatives at the paediatrics unit of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
According to the video, the incident happened on Friday the 1st of November 2024 when a Dr who was on call attending to patients at the paediatrics emergency unit when a woman brought a sick child whom was attended to by the Dr and was confirmed with diphtheria.
The board under the leadership of the Executive Secretary Dr Mansur Nagoda has already summoned the CMD and head of unit to investigate what transpired. It added that, “we have 120 Drs in Murtala, 20 were posted to the unit and just recently 14 house officers were also posted to the hospital. But I fail to understand why only 1 Dr will be on call.
As for the drugs, the Executive Secretary said the government has provided diphtheria drugs for free for all. He reiterated that, the drugs should be deposited where it is supposed to be. “This should serve as a last warning to all, on no account should any officer pack up medications and stock up in their offices, leaving needy patients stranded.
“We have vowed that we will clean our system as well as keep both medical personnel and patients save, as this too shall be taken care of. We also call on the officers to reach out to the relevant authorities in the board and hospitals as their 1st point of call instead of going through the media.
Dr Nagoda added that, the government has just of recent employed a number of security officers on a permanent and pensionable basis whom will be trained by top security agencies like the police, DSS and will be posted to various government facilities especially those with high volume of patients
