ACOMIN Advocates Improved Water, Sanitation Facilities in Kano Communities
Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has intensified its advocacy for improved water and sanitation infrastructure in rural communities across Kano State.
The advocacy visit to the Kano State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA). was carried out through the ACOMIN State Advocacy Team (SAT), led by the State Coordinator Dr. Nura Haladu and the State Programme Officer Malam Sharif Abubakar.
The visit aimed to request the construction of toilets and installation of water pumps in selected community health facilities facing challenges of poor access to clean water and sanitation services.

Presenting the request letter on behalf of the team, Dr. Haladu explained that the advocacy followed several months of community assessments which revealed urgent water supply challenges in some health facilities.
“Over the past months, we have identified an urgent need for improved water and sanitation infrastructure in several health facilities,” he said.
According to him, the facilities experiencing water shortages include Tsakiya Health Post in Tsakiya Ward of Minjibir Local Government Area, Sarbi Health Post in Sarbi Ward of Minjibir LGA, Yar Tasha Health Post in Yallami Ward of Bichi LGA, as well as Kawo Health Post and facilities in Gabasawa Ward of Gabasawa LGA.
He also highlighted sanitation challenges in several communities, noting the need for modern or improved latrine toilets in health facilities such as Tsabiri Health Post in Kausani Ward of Wudil LGA, Tsakiya Health Post in Minjibir LGA, Yar Tasha Health Post in Yallami Ward of Bichi LGA, Bumbum Health Post in Saye Ward of Bichi LGA, Sarari Health Post in Fassi Ward of Kibiya LGA, Gargai Health Post in Gargai Ward of Bebeji LGA and Guruma Health Post in Yautar Kudu of Gabasawa LGA.
Dr. Haladu emphasized that access to safe water and sanitation remains critical to improving healthcare delivery and preventing disease outbreaks in rural communities.
He further noted that RUWASA has played a key role in improving living conditions in rural areas and expressed confidence that the agency’s support would make a lasting impact in the affected communities.
ACOMIN also appealed for the installation of about 15 reliable water pumps in the facilities to ensure consistent access to clean and safe water for patients, healthcare workers and surrounding communities.
The group assured the agency of its readiness to collaborate with local communities by mobilizing residents and providing support to ensure the sustainability of the proposed facilities.
In his response, the Director of Planning and Community Mobilisation (DPCM) at RUWASA, Alhaji Muhammad Ya’u, commended ACOMIN for its commitment to improving the wellbeing of communities in Kano State.
“We appreciate the work civil society organisations like ACOMIN are doing to support development and improve community health,” he said.
He assured the team that their request would be forwarded to the Director General of the agency for further consideration and necessary action.
Alhaji Ya’u also emphasized that RUWASA remains open to collaboration with non-governmental organisations and development partners to improve access to water and sanitation services for the people of Kano State.
