IWD 2026: AHIP Advocates Women’s Empowerment, Warns Against Human Trafficking

The Adolescent Health Information Projects (AHIP) has called for stronger commitment to women’s empowerment and safety as the world commemorates International Women’s Day 2026.
In a statement issued on March 8, the organisation joined the global community in celebrating the contributions of women across different sectors, acknowledging their vital role in families, communities, and national development.

AHIP noted that this year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” highlights the strength of women to remain hardworking, dedicated, and resilient despite the many challenges they face in society.
The organisation explained that the theme also serves as an important reminder for women and girls to be cautious and avoid falling victim to illegal migration and human trafficking.
According to AHIP, empowering women with knowledge, skills, and opportunities remains a critical step toward ensuring they can thrive safely and independently.
The group emphasised that women have always served as the backbone of families and communities, playing essential roles in nurturing, leadership, and economic activities.
Speaking in the statement, the Executive Director of AHIP, Mairo V. Bello, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening programs that support women’s development and self-reliance.
“Through our programs, we remain committed to equipping women with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to become self-reliant, hardworking, and dedicated agents of change,” she said.
Dr. Bello also stressed that every woman possesses the potential to achieve greatness when given the right opportunities and support systems.
She added that AHIP’s initiatives are designed to create platforms where women can develop their talents, take charge of their health, and pursue sustainable livelihoods.
According to her, investing in women ultimately leads to stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
The organisation therefore called on government institutions, civil society organisations, and private sector partners to strengthen collaboration in promoting women’s empowerment and protection.
