NAWOJ, Aminu Magashi Foundation Hold Peace Dialogue for Female Journalists in Kano

The Nigerian Women Journalists Kano State chapter, in partnership with the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation, has organized a one-day dialogue for female journalists focused on their role in promoting peace, community coexistence, and humanity across Kano State.
The dialogue, which brought together women media professionals from different organizations, aimed to strengthen responsible reporting and highlight how female journalists can contribute to conflict-sensitive journalism and social harmony.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State chapter expressed deep appreciation to the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation for its continued support toward empowering women journalists and promoting peace-building efforts in the state.
She noted that many of the achievements recorded by the association were made possible through dedication and collective hard work by members and partners who believe in the mission of NAWOJ.
“We are grateful for the support given to women journalists in Kano. Our progress today is a result of commitment, partnership, and hard work toward promoting peace in our society,” Bahijja said.
Speaking at the event, a representative of the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation Amina Marafa described women journalists as key pillars in advancing peace and social stability through their daily reporting and community engagement.
The representative emphasized that female journalists play a critical role in shaping narratives that encourage harmony, understanding, and responsible public dialogue across communities.
Also delivering remarks, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Comrade Mustapha Gambo, expressed happiness over the initiative and commended the organizers for focusing on women journalists.
He said such dialogues are timely and necessary, especially as the media continues to serve as a bridge between the public and authorities during sensitive periods.
The facilitator of the dialogue, Ubah Abdullahi, in his presentation, outlined practical approaches for women journalists to investigate stories carefully and frame their reports in ways that promote peaceful coexistence, particularly in times of tension and public uncertainty.
The Participant Aisha Aliyu Ismail From Jalla Radio said the dialogue strengthened her understanding of peace-focused journalism.
She however encouraged stronger collaboration among female reporters in Kano state.
