Kano Emirate Council Hosts 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign Delegation

The Kano Emirate Council has received a delegation of the 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign to discuss collaboration on peacebuilding and community resilience across Northern Nigeria.

The delegation, led by Global Peace Ambassador Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, was received on Saturday at the residence of the Magajin Garin Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Nasiru Wada.

Briefing the Emirate Council, Malami said the campaign aims to address insecurity, youth vulnerability and rising social tensions through mass awareness, community mobilisation, and empowerment of youths and women.

He added that the initiative also plans to deploy a technology-driven Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) system in partnership with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).

Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Kano, the Magajin Garin Kano commended the initiative and stressed the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability in the region.

He noted that insecurity in the North is largely driven by unemployment, rural-urban migration and lack of opportunities for young people, urging the campaign to focus on addressing these root causes.

The Magajin Garin Kano also advised the organisers to maintain neutrality ahead of the 2027 general elections and requested a clear outline of the support expected from the Emirate Council.

The Emirate Council assured the delegation of its readiness to support grassroots engagement and collaborate on strengthening early warning and early response mechanisms at the community level.

The visit ended with a tour of the Muhammad Inuwa Wada ICT Centre and a group photograph.

The 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign is being implemented in partnership with the Africa Peace Reform Initiative (APRI), Zamkah Technologies Limited, IPCR, AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Global Peace Chain and Coral Charitable Foundation.
