Zulum Served Southern Borno in Five Days of Impactful Governance
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum last week embarked on a five-day working visit across parts of the Southern Borno Senatorial Zone, delivering projects and interventions aimed at fast-tracking post-insurgency recovery and improving the lives of residents.
Between January 5 and 9, the governor toured Bayo, Kwaya-Kusar, Shani, Hawul and Biu local government areas, where he commissioned schools, inspected healthcare facilities, empowered women and youths, and approved financial and employment support for vulnerable groups.
In Bayo Local Government Area, Zulum became the first sitting governor to spend a night in the remote community of Fikayel. During the visit, he inaugurated two Government Secondary Schools in Fikayel and Balbaya, flagged off a High Islamic College project and directed the digitalisation of public secondary schools across the state.
Speaking at the launch of the Islamic college, the governor said the initiative would help integrate out-of-school children, especially Almajirai, into the formal education system.
“We are streamlining the TSangaya system into formal education by introducing literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and vocational training,” Zulum said.
In Kwaya-Kusar, the governor commissioned the permanent site of Government Day Secondary School Wandali after nearly three decades of operating from a temporary location, and also inspected the General Hospital, promising rehabilitation and restoration of electricity.
At Shani Local Government Area, Zulum commissioned three model secondary schools in Shani, Borgu and Gasi, flagged off a 48-classroom High Islamic College project, and directed the immediate employment of volunteer nurses, midwives and community health workers at the General Hospital.
The governor also visited Hawul, where he released ₦100 million to the National Orthopaedic Hospital Azare to address operational challenges, approved financial incentives for deployed medical personnel, and supported patients receiving treatment at the facility.
In Biu, emotions ran high as Zulum inaugurated the “Second Chance for Women and Girls Skills Acquisition Centre,” approved ₦100,000 support for each of the 400 trainees, granted scholarships for qualified beneficiaries, disbursed ₦1 billion to over 13,000 SMEs, and ordered the employment of youths and volunteer health workers.
According to Pulse Time Nigeria, the five-day tour resulted in the delivery of eight schools, the commencement of four new education projects and the recruitment of health personnel, reinforcing the governor’s servant-leadership approach to rebuilding southern Borno after years of insurgency.
