Prof. Gwarzo Awards Global Scholarships to Over 40 First-Class MAAUN Graduates, Forgives Critics.

The Founder and President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has awarded international scholarships to over 40 First-Class graduates of the institution, granting them the opportunity to pursue further studies at universities of their choice across the world.
The scholarship announcement was made during MAAUN’s First Graduating Dinner for its pioneer graduating students, held on 19 December 2025 at the university’s Nigeria campus, an event that attracted over 2,000 guests from within and outside the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Gwarzo described the scholarship as part of the university’s commitment to rewarding excellence and nurturing globally competitive graduates grounded in strong moral values. He said the gesture was aimed at opening global opportunities for students who had distinguished themselves academically and ethically.
“Excellence deserves encouragement. These young men and women have proven that discipline, hard work, and character still matter, and the world should hear their stories,” Prof. Gwarzo said.
In an emotional moment that drew prolonged applause, the Founder also announced that he had forgiven all individuals who had previously criticized or attempted to undermine him and the university, noting that education must be built on forgiveness, purpose, and service to humanity.
“I choose forgiveness over bitterness, and I choose to invest in the future of our children rather than dwell on negativity,” he added.
The scholarship-focused event marked a historic milestone for MAAUN, being the first graduating dinner since the establishment of the university. It brought together students, parents, academic and non-academic staff, traditional leaders, government officials, and international guests from countries including the United States, France, and India.
Goodwill messages were delivered by adjunct professors and faculty members from different parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Pakistan, and Canada, who congratulated the beneficiaries and praised MAAUN’s growing reputation as a global institution.
University leaders, including the President, Vice President (Administration), Chancellor Prof. Mahmouda Salouhou, and Prof. Sudhakar Kota, Vice-Chancellor of Hensard University, Bayelsa State, commended Prof. Gwarzo’s scholarship initiative, describing it as a rare investment in youth development and academic excellence.
They also urged the graduates to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to service as they represent the university on the global stage through the scholarship opportunities.
The Founder, while reflecting on the MAAUN vision, reminded the audience of the success of graduates from MAAUN Maradi in Niger Republic, many of whom are excelling in Saudi Arabia, Canada, and the United States, noting that the scholarship recipients are expected to uphold the same standards of excellence.
A documentary titled “The MAAUN Journey” was screened at the event, tracing Prof. Gwarzo’s educational journey which began in Maradi at the age of 28 and has since expanded to four universities: MAAUN Niger, MAAUN Nigeria, Franco-British International University Kaduna, and the Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja.
Parents of the scholarship beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Founder, describing the award as life-changing and praising his hands-on leadership style, which they said treats students like family and places equal emphasis on academics and character.
As the evening concluded, many guests described the scholarship award as the defining moment of the night, noting that MAAUN had not only celebrated academic success but also demonstrated how leadership, forgiveness, and generosity can transform lives and shape the future.
