GAMMUN Centre Commends Kano Government for Releasing NCD Funds, Presents Key Advocacy Priorities

The GAMMUN Centre for Care Development Nigeria has expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for releasing Money allocated for Non-Communicable Diseases interventions in the 2025 budget.
The commendation was delivered during a Strategic Immersion Meeting held with the Association of People Living with Hypertension and the Kano State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.
The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration and review progress on NCD programmes across the state.
Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Director of GAMMUN Centre, Hajiya Fatahiya Ado Lawal, appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner of Health for responding to the long-standing request for the release of the NCD funds.
She noted that the release would support ongoing interventions and urged the government to ensure full disbursement of the budgeted amount to allow smooth and uninterrupted implementation of NCD activities.
“This release is a welcome step, and we truly appreciate the Governor and the Commissioner. But we also urge the government to release the funds as allocated so that the work can go smoothly,”
Lawal also appealed to members of the public to visit hospitals regularly and get screened for hypertension, describing the condition as a “silent killer” that requires early detection.
During the engagement, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of APLWH, Alhaji Hussaini Namadi, presented five major advocacy requests on behalf of the association and the GAMMUN Centre.
These requests were aimed at strengthening NCD response and improving service delivery for people living with hypertension.
One of the key requests was the need to service blood pressure apparatus in NCD facilities by engaging qualified maintenance engineers, ensuring the equipment remains functional and reliable.
In response, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the groups for their commitment and assured them that their concerns would be communicated to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf through the appropriate channels.
