FG Unveils Online Classes After Public Calls for Nationwide E-Learning

The Federal Government has introduced a new nationwide digital learning initiative following growing calls from Nigerians for the creation of accessible e-learning classes for schoolchildren across the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Education said the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative was designed to expand equitable access to quality learning for students, especially in areas with teacher shortages and frequent disruptions to schooling.
The statement was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo.
The ministry said the move was part of the government’s response to increasing public demand for structured online learning platforms.
“This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and ensures that Nigerian children can access quality education regardless of their situation,” the statement added.
According to the ministry, Inspire Live(s) will broadcast real-time, interactive lessons directly to students nationwide. It said this digital model would “democratise learning and make quality education available to all, no matter the location.”
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full implementation had begun, noting that the rollout would soon cover classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3.
He said the Inspire platform currently offers online lessons for Junior and Senior Secondary School students, with classes holding from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The lessons are taught by certified master teachers using Cisco Webex technology.
For Junior Secondary School learners, subjects include Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, ICT, Civic Education, French, Agricultural Science, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Business Studies, and History.
Senior Secondary School students can access subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
To ensure nationwide participation, the ministry directed all state Commissioners for Education to nominate State Focal Officers to coordinate the programme. They were also asked to circulate details of the scheme to both public and private school principals.
The ministry further instructed states to equip selected schools with basic ICT tools and internet connectivity, adding that schools must meet minimum digital requirements to participate effectively.
It noted that registration for the programme would be handled strictly by school principals through the Inspire support channels.
The statement emphasised that the e-learning classes are open to all schools across the country. The Inspire Live(s) platform is accessible to both public and private institutions.
