NYCN Northwest Condemns Kebbi School Attack, Abduction, Calls for Urgent Action

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Northwest Zone, has expressed deep shock and strong condemnation over the recent attack and abduction of students at the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
The council, in a press statement jointly signed by Amb. Haruna Ibrahim Haruna, Vice President (Northwest) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), and Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, the National President, described the incident which led to the abduction of 25 female students, the killing of one teacher, and the serious injury of another as a “painful reminder of the growing insecurity threatening education, peace, and the future of children” in the region.
“An attack on a learning institution is an attack on the conscience of the nation, its development, and its hope for progress.”
As the apex body for youth organisations in the country, the NYCN Northwest Zone unequivocally condemned what it termed a “barbaric and inhumane act against innocent students and dedicated teachers.”

The council called on the Federal and Kebbi State Governments, as well as all security agencies, to take urgent steps to strengthen security around schools in the Northwest, intensify intelligence gathering, and ensure the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted students.
It also demanded comprehensive medical care, psychological support, and appropriate compensation for the affected families, including the relatives of the deceased teacher.
The youth Council urged young people across communities to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to the authorities, and refuse to be used by criminal elements, noting that “security is a collective responsibility.”
In its conclusion, the NYCN Northwest Zone stated that the attack was unacceptable and must never be allowed to happen again, reaffirming its solidarity with the people of Kebbi State.
The council pledged its commitment to working with government authorities, security agencies, and community leaders to ensure schools remain safe havens for learning.
