Arewa Group Condemns Niger, Kebbi Abductions, Calls for New Security Approach

The Arewa Connect Movement has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the kidnapping of an estimated 150 pupils and teachers from a school in Niger State, describing the act as “terrible and painful” for the nation.

In a strongly-worded statement released on Tuesday signed by Auwal Mahmud Durumin Iya, leader of the movement, on behalf of the other leader.

The group lamented the recurring tragedy of school abductions, recalling that the Niger incident comes just days after 25 female students were seized from a school in Kebbi State, with no information about their whereabouts.

“Truly, this is a major challenge for the government, security agencies and the entire society, requiring a firm stand against this heinous lawlessness,” the statement read.

The movement asserted that it is incumbent upon the government to change its approach to combating violent criminals so that they can be dealt with comprehensively and such unpleasant incidents can be avoided.

Consequently, the Arewa Connect Movement has called on all Nigerians to unite in tackling the security scourge that has plagued the country.

“The Arewa Connect Movement calls on all Nigerians, with respect and dignity, to rise together to bring an end to this scourge that has troubled us for too long,” the statement added.

Finally, the group extended its condolences to the federal government, the governments of Kebbi and Niger states, parents, relatives and the entire nation.

It expressed hope that Allah would bring relief soon.
