Kano Governor Orders Takaful Sensitization After Singer Market Fire

In response to a devastating fire that broke out at the popular Singer Market in the early hours of Monday, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commiserated with affected traders and ordered a statewide sensitization campaign on Islamic Insurance.

The Governor, who was out of town at the time of the incident, was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Industry and Cooperative, Gwani Shehu Wada Sagagi, during a visit to assess the damage.

Commissioner Sagagi conveyed the Governor’s sympathy and assurances of government support to alleviate the losses suffered by the traders.

He described Singer Market as one of the most important markets in the state, noting that the government had already approved the construction and rehabilitation of access roads in and around the market to facilitate business activities and enhance the state’s economic growth.

Expressing deep concern over the increasing frequency of market fires in the state, Governor Yusuf issued a directive for a proactive measure.

He has ordered the Ministry of Investment, Commerce, Industry, and Cooperative to immediately embark on a sensitization programme for traders on the benefits of Islamic Insurance, known as Takaful.

This initiative is aimed at providing traders with a financial safety net to mitigate losses from unforeseen disasters such as fires.

The affected traders, while grappling with their losses, expressed appreciation for the Governor’s compassion and prompt response. They described the incident as a trial from God and thanked the government delegation for the visit.
