Kano Set to Host Maiden KANFEST 2025, A Grand Celebration of Arts and Culture.
The Kano State Government has officially announced the inaugural edition of the Kano Arts and Culture Festival (KANFEST), a landmark event designed to showcase the state’s rich heritage to the world.
In a press release issued today,by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, unveiled the festival, themed
“Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future.” The event will be held at the Kano Trade Fair Complex under the coordination of the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, through the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
According to the government, KANFEST represents a firm commitment to preserving cultural values while promoting creative innovation.
The festival aims to position culture as a powerful tool for peace, unity, tourism, and economic growth.
“KANFEST is a festival beyond entertainment; it is a cultural rebirth,” stated Comrade Waiya. “It is about honouring our heritage and empowering the future, because culture is our identity, and it must be celebrated.”
The three-day event is poised to bring history to life, offering guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Kano’s finest traditions. The festival will feature a diverse lineup of activities.
Including: Wrestling the Old Kano Way,Majema Tanning Artistry Revealed,Dukawa Leather Craftsmanship.
Waiya, emphasized that KANFEST is part of a broader strategy to revive cultural industries and attract new investments to the state.
“Through this festival, we are creating opportunities for cultural industries and attracting new investments to Kano – truly, from festival to foreign direct investment,” the release noted.
“Let us show the world that Kano remains the cradle of Hausa civilization, a land of proud people and proud heritage, where culture connects communities and inspires tomorrow,” Comrade Waiya concluded. “Indeed, the world is coming to Kano through culture.”
The event Scheduled for October 25th to 27th, 2025, the festival promises to be a vibrant melting pot of tradition, creativity, and economic opportunity.
