The Gammun Center for Care Development has called on the state government to prioritize the fight against hypertension, citing its severe social and economic impacts on communities.
The appeal was made during a high-level advocacy visit by the Gammun Center to the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Agency on Thursday.

He emphasized that the disease places a heavy burden on families, often leading to lost income due to disability and overwhelming healthcare costs, thereby perpetuating a cycle of poverty regardless of a community’s economic status.

A representative from the Association of People Living with Hypertension gave a powerful testimony, detailing the daily struggles with medication costs and the fear of complications, putting a human face on the statistical data.
In a reassuring response, Hajiya Aisha Abdukadir Makatu, representing the Director General of the SPHCMA, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, commended the Gammun Center for its relentless efforts and strategic focus.
She acknowledged the severe impact of hypertension on the populace and assured the delegation of the agency’s commitment to a collaborative partnership.
She promised that the agency would review the key asks with a view to integrating them into its ongoing health initiatives, highlighting the state government’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery across all sectors.
