FOCO Calls for Action to Build a Bullying-Free Generation on Children’s Day
As Nigeria commemorates the 2025 Children’s Day, Friends of the Community Organization (FOCO) is urging stakeholders to stand up and speak up for children’s rights. This year’s theme, “Stand up, Speak up: Building a Bullying-free generation,” highlights the need to address the pervasive issue of bullying that affects millions of children worldwide.
FOCO recognizes the challenges that hinder children’s growth, well-being, psychosocial, and cognitive development, including:
-Bullying and violence in schools*
– Child labor and exploitation*
– Limited access to quality education and healthcare*
– Violence and abuse in homes and communities*
Despite these challenges, FOCO acknowledges the progress made in promoting children’s rights, particularly with the implementation of the Child Protection Law and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act.
These legislations have been instrumental in protecting children’s rights and welfare. FOCO commends the efforts of governments and organizations working to implement these laws and provide support to victims of violence.
FOCO recognizes the efforts of the Kano State Government and stakeholders in promoting children’s welfare and safety. We encourage continued investment in programs and initiatives that support children’s rights, education, and well-being.
Together, we can create a brighter future for our children and ensure that they receive the protection, care, and support they deserve.
As FOCO Executive Director, Hassan Ibrahim Gama, emphasized, “Let’s work together to build a bullying-free generation, where every child can grow, learn, and thrive in a supportive and nurturing environment.” Happy Children’s Day 2025!
