In his remarks while declaring open the 6th education for sustainable development youth conference, the vice chancellor Bayero university Kano ,Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas says, the institute has provided conducive learning environment for development and empowering youths for a sustainable future.
He explained that,BUK is an institution with well articulated and clear commitment, to providing an environment where engagements are considered, essential and where fruitful deliberations can flourish.
The vice chancellor pointed out that,by targeting students in tertiary institutions, as sustainability ambassadors,the conference is apt, and critical towards helping Nigerian youths imbibe life changing skills, and agents of promotion and attainment of the sustainable development goals (SDG).
The director for center of gender studies (CGS) Dr. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmed in her welcome address explained that,the conference was organized, to identify key challenges hindering sustainable development, and harness the immense potentials that lies within youths.
She said, the deliberations would significantly shape the role of education, in forging sustainable future as well as going a long way in influencing policies,inspire initiatives and transformation of communities, and the world at large.
“As we embark on this intellectual journey together,let us keep in mind that our deliberations have the power to transcend these walls and resonate far beyond this gathering”
However,the formar minister of education and Chairperson, Professor Rukayya Ahmed Rufa’i described the conference as unique, as it offers youths from diverse background to share experiences, and forward ideas to support greater success.
She highlighted that,Young people have been active in socio economic and political areas,and continued to excel in innovations in the area of technology, and other society changing activities.

The conference was marked by award presentation, to outstanding personalities who have excelled including engr. Sa’id Bubah Ahmad executive director NNPC ,the former chief of army staff,Ambassador Tukur Yusuf Burutai,former Nigerian ambassador to Brazil Ahmed Muhamamad Makarfi,former Nigerian ambassador to Tanzania Hamisu Umar Takalmawa,and former Nigerian ambassador to Romania Safiya Ahmed Nuhu,former director center for gender studies, Professor Hassana Darma and 13 others.
