The Kano State Government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have partnered to improve access to quality education in the state. On Monday.
In his welcome address, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed gratitude to UNICEF and other partners for their commitment to supporting the state’s education sector. He noted that their contributions have been instrumental in shaping the future of Kano’s children.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Michael Banda, Officer-in-Charge of the UNICEF Field Office in Kano, emphasized the importance of education as a fundamental right.
While handing over learning and instructional materials to the state government,Mr Banda noted that the materials symbolize hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for children in Kano State.
“The books, computers, and electronic gadgets represent more than just pages filled with knowledge or electronic gadgets filled with software and data; they symbolize hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for all children in Kano State,” Mr. Banda said.
He urged educators to use the materials to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning in children. Mr. Banda also encouraged students to cherish the learning aids and books, learn from them, and use the knowledge gained to shape their future.
Mr. Banda appealed to the state government to prioritize periodic replenishment of learning materials.
“Books and electronic gadgets are perishables and require deliberate planning for periodic replenishment,” he said.
“Every year, we must be deliberate in our planning, budgeting, and procurement so we don’t fall far behind and compromise the quality of learning outcomes,” he added.
The partnership between UNICEF and the Kano State Government aims to promote education for all and improve learning outcomes in the state.
